Starfire, formerly known as Koriand'r, is one of the most iconic superheroines in DC Comics history. She is an alien with a striking and unique appearance — burning orange hair, green eyes, well-defined muscles and purple suit. As a princess, Starfire has threatened her older sister Blackfire, who wanted to become the Empress of Tamaran, and for a long time needed to hide from many deadly assaults.
After being saved by Robin, Starfire followed him to Earth and join the Teen Titans starting a new life which is to protect justice and maintain peace. From her first art image appeared in 1980 to now, the most impressive Starfire in our generation is in the first Teen Titans cartoon TV series. In this 2003 show, Starfire wears a purple two-piece suit with oval-shaped eyebrows and metallic shiny gauntlets that first catch people’s eye. If you are interested in Starfire and plan to show it in Halloween, there is nothing more meaningful than making your own cosplay.
You will need the following parts to complete the Starfire Halloween cosplay:
1. Starfire Cosplay Wig
Source from: Teen Titans(2003)
The first generation of Starfire in DC Comics has a long curly hair to the ground, as if burning fire. This 2003 cartoon version has changed the curly hair into waist-length straight red hair, like a gentle young girl. You can also prepare a red curly bang, because Starfire has short curly bangs above her eyebrows.
2. Orange Body Paint
After the alien army invaded her hometown, Starfire was captured to be their experimental subject. These painful experiments inadvertently sparked Starfire's superpower, which is to absorb solar energy and convert it into her own usable energy. You must try to use makeup to replicate Starfire's orange skin as it is her signature feature.
3. Purple Sleeveless Crop Top
Starfire is wearing a midriff-baring crop top made of a stretchy fabric and suitable for novices to start their cosplay. After measuring your bust and desired top length, you will need to have your purple spandex fabric and sewing kit ready. Then cut and pin the two pieces of fabric together, right sides facing, and sew along both sides. Please make sure the armholes are large enough to allow for movement. And cut the bottom edge of the top to your desired length. Lastly, fold the edge under twice and hem it in the same way you hemmed the neckline and armholes.
4. Purple A-Line Mini Skirt
This is a straight version of mini short skirt in the same purple and you can easily make it by yourself. Firstly, using fabric scissors and cut out a rectangular piece of purple spandex fabric according to your body measurements. Then pin and sew the sides. Cut the top edge of the skirt to your desired length, taking into account the waistband. Fold the edge under twice, and pin it in place. Sew a straight stitch around the edge to create a clean hem. After sewing, please try on the skirt and make any necessary adjustments.
5. Starfire Gorget and Wrist Guards
Teen Titans Starfire’s protective gear was made of an alien material, with a unique sense of metallic shine. You can make it by wrapping your own neck and arms in tinfoil but it only for a disposable use. To create the more realistic gorget and wrist guards , you can use foam materials. Here are five steps you can follow when making them:
Using reference images of Starfire's wrist guards and gorget, draw a template of the shapes you want to create on a piece of paper.
Using a heat gun or hair dryer, heat the foam pieces until they become pliable.
Apply glue to the edges of the foam pieces and press them together firmly. You can use pins or clamps to hold the pieces in place until the glue dries.
Using a primer first and apply multiple coats of paint for best results with acrylic or spray pain.
Using rhinestone as the decorative gems on protective gear. Their color is close to the original version but lacking some Sci-Fi elements. For a more similar effect, you can use SmoothCast 300 resin which need one to one ratio of resin to hardener.
6. Starfire Silver Belt
Source from: Teen Titans(2003)
To begin with, draw a template of the belt on a piece of cowhide paper and then cut. Secondly, place the template onto the foam sheet, and trace around it with a pen or marker. You can cut out the foam piece using scissors or a craft knife. Repeat this process to create additional foam pieces if your belt design requires it. Lastly, apply glue to the edges of the foam pieces and press them together firmly.
7. Purple Thigh High Stockings and Boots
Starfire purple boots are made of latex. More conveniently, you can just buy a pair of purple thigh high socks and then wear a pair of purple boots. To complete more details, you need to prepare silver stretch leather and cut a loop of about 6 cm sewing on top of the socks. If there is leftover fabric, you can cut off a small section to use as an arm band.
How To Dress Like Starfire From Teen Titan
Starfire's costume is typically made of spandex or lycra, which are stretchy and form-fitting materials. You just need to cut out the fabric pieces according to your pattern and sew them together using a sewing machine or by hand. And don't forget to add the silver accents. Look for silver accessories that mimic these details, such as a silver belt, metallic gauntlets, and silver choker necklace.
