Luke Skywalker is a fictional character and one of the main protagonists in the Star Wars franchise. He first appears in the original 1977 film "Star Wars" (later retitled "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope"), and is portrayed by actor Mark Hamill.
Luke is the son of Anakin Skywalker (who later becomes Darth Vader) and Padmé Amidala, and is raised on the desert planet of Tatooine by his aunt and uncle. He dreams of leaving the planet and becoming a pilot like his father before him, but his life changes forever when he discovers a message from Princess Leia Organa in a droid named R2-D2.
